John Brown Childs

The Multi-cultural Idea Is Preferable To The Melting Pot But It Is Far Short of the Idea a National Community With Genuine Diversity
$0.00

John Brown Childs, a UCSC professor emeritus, author, scholar and educator, joined the Teachers for Class War radio show on Free Radio Santa Cruz for an hour of discussion on July 13th. Topics range from Katrina to Obama, UCSC politics to his namesake John Brown, and the civil rights movement of the sixties to contemporary issues facing Santa Cruz. The discussion is framed through the lens of transcommunality, the title of one of Childs' books, which examines the ways that race, class and gender separate us, but also link us together and lead to a practice of respectful cooperation in the best case, making peaceful coexistence possible even when inevitable disagreement takes hold.
